Study Abroad Leads to Long Term Stay in Paris

Written by Siobhan, age 21

Even before I graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 2011, I knew I wanted to live in Paris. After my study abroad experience in Montpellier I knew that I wanted to go back, but this time to the capital of France and the city I now call home.

Though I researched many options for my return to France, I kept coming back to Au Pair Paris. The idea of having both the security of family life coupled with my own independent exploration of the city and Europe was just what I was looking for.

Au Pair Paris matched me with an incredible family just outside Paris. I had my own studio and enrolled in courses at the Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne which helped me gain entrance to the Sorbonne Nouvelle where I am now pursuing a PhD in French Literature.

The family I was placed with presented me with many of the opportunities I had in Paris, whether it be trying a new restaurant, visiting an exposition, having help with editing my papers or even going to Disneyland! I am someone who likes to engage in family life even outside of the time I spent taking care of the kids and this proved to be the most rewarding part of my au pair experience in Paris. I grew to love Paris so much that I chose to stay and continue my studies, and though I now live in my own apartment in the city, my host family and I remain very close and see each other often.

I would recommend Au Pair Paris to anyone and encourage them to take advantage of every opportunity available through this program, whether it be school, Paris culture, making new and amazing friends or developing your language skills with a family that really does become like your own. Profitez-en!
