How to Apply to Become an Au Pair

1. Review the information for au pair candidates in the Become an Au Pair section.

2. Fill out our application.

3. We will generally contact you within two business days, either by email or with a call for a brief conversation and introductory interview.

4. Have an in-person (New York City) or Skype interview. This will be followed by a Skype conversation with our Parisian office, in French and English (a basic level of French is required!).

5. Provide the Au Pair Paris fee (includes full guidance for the application/visa process, notarized translation of your diploma, introductions and information meetings in Paris, guidance and support throughout your stay): a $300 check made out to Au Pair Paris. This is refundable if we do not find you an appropriate family within 3 months of depositing your check.

6. Prepare the rest of your documentation (we will guide you through this) to obtain your visa.

7. Match with a French family.

8. Once a match is made, you must pre-enroll for a French class as is required by your visa (we will assist you with this).

9. All of your paperwork is sent to the appropriate offices in Paris for a stamped approval and is then expedited to you, to bring to your visa appointment.

Apply for an Au Pair Visa

It is necessary to obtain an au pair visa from your regional (or your home country) office of the Consulate General of France before you leave for Paris. There are many regional French Consulates in the U.S. and you must apply in person. Please see one of the websites below for specific information about how to apply for a visa. We will be happy to guide you through this process. A visa is not required for European citizens.
